Overseas Travel Insurance

Berlitz maintains 'Overseas Travel Insurance' for its foreign national employees. Instead of automatically enrolling foreign nationals into the Japanese Public Social Welfare System,
Berlitz illegally uses this travel insurance scheme in its place. This saves the company money on premiums as the costs for the Japanese Public Social Welfare System are split between employee and company.

The insurance policy displayed in the teachers' rooms dates back to 1 January 1992. The policy described in the Berlitz Policy and Procedures Manual is also out of date.

The current policy has recently been switched to a new agent from Willis Japan Ltd.
The new agent is Benesse Insurance Service Inc. Benesse is the parent company of Berlitz.

Scope of Policy
According to Berlitz Policy and Procedures this insurance policy applies to foreign national employees who work a minimum of 120 units per month, and/or teaches 120 units per month.

Dependents of eligible employees are also covered if they reside in Japan and receive an income of less that 1,000,000 yen per year.

The cost of the premiums are paid by the employer.

The following is the most recent information on the new policy.
